On Thursday 17th November, the Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, asked the Leader of the House of Commons, Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP, to praise the excellent work of the Hanmer Surgery in Clwyd South and asked about the building of appropriate new surgery premises to support increasing patient demand.
Mr. Baynes said:
“Over many years there have been discussions between the excellent doctor’s surgery in Hanmer in my constituency of Clwyd South and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board about building appropriate new surgery premises. Would my right honourable Friend facilitate an opportunity for this to be discussed in the business of the House and join with me in urging the Health Board and the Welsh government to expedite these discussions so that the Hanmer Surgery can meet the ever-increasing patient demand locally?”
In response to Mr. Baynes’ question, the Leader of the Commons, Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt, said:
“I thank the honourable gentleman for raising this. Clearly, in all parts of the UK, the NHS and Healthcare is under tremendous pressure. I know he is campaigning hard on this issue. In the meantime, I shall ask the Department what more it can do to encourage the Welsh government and local stakeholders to bring forward these new services.”
Speaking later, Mr. Baynes said:
“I welcomed the opportunity to raise in the House of Commons the need for the expansion of the premises at the Hanmer surgery. I have worked closely with the Surgery and the Hanmer Patient Action Group alongside my colleague Mark Isherwood MS in the Senedd since I was first elected Member of Parliament for Clwyd South three years ago. I will continue to work with the Surgery and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to achieve the improvements needed for the Hanmer Surgery.”
