Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, has been elected a Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Outdoor Learning following a virtual Zoom meeting on Wednesday 4th November.
Outdoor learning covers a wide range of areas of activity where being outdoors is central to the activity and ethos. These include, adventure tourism, organised sport, study and outdoor therapy.
The APPG aims to influence UK Government guidance on the reopening of outdoor residential centres, emphasise their importance as are vital educational resources at risk of closure and press for support to survive the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the meeting, APPG members discussed how to help centres deliver education whilst working to ensure that they are Covid-19 secure and encourage the development of an effective, professional outdoor sector across the UK that can adapt and respond to modern challenges and opportunities.
Simon Baynes MP said:
“I was very pleased to be made a Vice Chair of the APPG for Outdoor Learning. This is a vitally important but often overlooked industry which does vital work educating children and young people in Clwyd South and across the rest of the UK and needs support to survive the pandemic. I look forward to working with other APPG members such as Member of Parliament for Aberconwy and APPG Chair, Robin Millar MP, to ensure outdoor learning becomes an integral part of the education syllabus whilst being Covid secure.”
