Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, recently met with the Cefn Mawr Snooker Team at the Ebenezer Chapel in Cefn Mawr with David Metcalfe to hear about the team’s recent successes.
On Monday 25th July, Mr Baynes met with the snooker team in Cefn Mawr, who play in the Oswestry League and the Wrexham League, and heard about their achievements over the last year. During his visit, Mr Baynes met with team captain for the Oswestry Snooker League, Martin Evans, and also Matt Roberts, who captains the team in the Wrexham League. The team has won all their matches in both leagues during 2022, and Matt Roberts himself has been ranked in the top 16 Snooker players in Europe.
The Snooker team is very pleased to be based in the Ebenezer Chapel in Cefn Mawr which David Metcalfe has saved for community use. They are also keen to start a young persons league and invest in three Snooker tables upstairs in the chapel for the community to use in the future.
David Metcalfe said:
“It was great to meet with Simon at the Ebenezer Chapel and to tell him about some of the Snooker Team’s recent successes and achievements. The Cefn Mawr Snooker Team who meet, practice, and play in the Ebenezer at the centre of our community have had an exceptional season. They are certainly the most successful snooker team in the Cefn, Wrexham and Oswestry. We’re very grateful to Simon for showing an interest and look forward to keeping in touch.”

“I had a great evening meeting with the Cefn Mawr Snooker Team and David Metcalfe at the Ebenezer Chapel, and it was wonderful to hear about their fantastic achievements in 2022 across both leagues. I would like to thank them for allowing me to visit and wish Martin, Matt and the Cefn Mawr Snooker Team the very best for the future, particularly in starting up a young persons’ Snooker league.”
