It was great to serve this month on the Football Governance Bill Committee (see left photo above), which was part of the progress of the Football Governance Bill through the House of Commons. The Bill is designed to protect football clubs via the creation of an Independent Football Regulator and to make provision for the licensing of football clubs.
Unfortunately, due to the announcement of the general election last week, it was not possible to complete the Bill’s progress through parliament but it has strong cross-party support so, whichever party wins on 4th July, I am sure that it will become law soon after.
I sat on the Committee in my capacity as the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, a role I have held since February 2022 and which I have greatly valued given my lifelong interest in the arts, music and heritage (I’m not great at sport….). It has been a great pleasure to work with the past and current Ministerial teams during that time from whom I have learned so much.
I would like to thank the current team of the Secretary of State Rt Hon Lucy Frazer MP, Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP, Julia Lopez MP and Lord Parkinson for being such friendly and talented people to work with.
It was also an honour to serve as the Minister for Justice and Tackling Illegal Migration in the Summer of 2022 which gave me an invaluable insight into the workings of government.
