On the 2nd June, Simon Baynes and the Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon David TC Davies MP, had the pleasure of visiting Ifor Williams Trailers, based in Corwen in Clwyd South. The company is the UK’s largest trailer manufacturer and has a strong international presence.
This family business, now run by Managing Directors John and Carole Williams, was established in 1958 and has since manufactured over half a million trailers, becoming the UK’s largest such manufacturer. The plant at Ty’n Llidiart produces components for Ifor Williams’ five other manufacturing sites in Denbighshire and Deeside and the company overall employs about 600 people.
During the visit, the Secretary of State and Mr Baynes toured the factory and learnt about the supply chain and network of over 100 distributors across the world that Ifor Williams use to sell their huge variety of multi-purpose trailers, from livestock trailers, medical units and horseboxes to flatbeds, tippers, car transporters and catering units.
John, Carole and Jac Williams gave Mr Baynes and the Secretary of State a detailed talk about their successful business including their excellent summer internship programme, their focus on providing local jobs in Clwyd South and their work to maintain a complex global supply and distribution chain. Ifor Williams is a world-beating company and a testament to the innovation and ingenuity of Welsh and British industry in the 21st century.
