Simon Baynes, the Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, attended the opening of the Grandparents’ Quilt of Love and Hope in the House of Commons last week, in support of grandparents in Clwyd South who have been estranged from their grandchildren.
The Quilt of Love and Hope has been created by an estranged grandmother using patchwork squares from many grandparents to reflect their feelings about the loss of their relationship with their beloved grandchild/grandchildren.
This important campaign by Grandparents United for Children supports the rights of children to have healthy and safe relationships with those in their immediate and extended families. As many as 2 million grandparents do not have contact with their grandchildren in the UK and this can negatively affect both grandchildren and grandparents.
Simon is therefore proud to support this campaign to motivate legal, policy and practice change so that children have a right to know their grandparents. If you are a resident in Clwyd South and this is something that affects you, please do not hesitate to contact Simon at [email protected].
