On Friday, 2nd June, Simon Baynes, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, attended the reopening of Corwen Station.
The stations re-opening is the result of more than a decade of tireless work by a group of committed volunteers, along with private and public donations. Simon attended the opening ceremony alongside the directors and supporters Llangollen Railway, the Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon David TC Davies MP, and Lord Hendy, Chairman of both Network Rail and the Heritage Railway Association, who unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the event.
Mr Baynes stated that it was wonderful to join volunteers and supporters of the heritage railway at the ceremony to celebrate the opening of the station and the realisation of all their hard work. He further added that it was excellent to see the station back in full operation after it was closed 60 years ago under the Beeching Axe.
Corwen Station will now provide further access to the beautiful countryside along the Dee Valley as an attraction for residents and visitors alike.
Mr Baynes wishes to thank everyone who organised this fantastic event and to the volunteers who have been so dedicated in their restoration of the station. Corwen Station and the Llangollen Railway are the pride of Clwyd South and a testament to our industrial heritage.
