Simon Baynes, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, has congratulated the UK Government on the recruitment of 207 extra police officers in North Wales, as it fulfils its manifesto pledge to recruit 20,000 more police officers across the UK.
In the House of Commons on Wednesday 26th April, Simon Baynes MP highlighted the recruitment of police officers in North Wales and its benefits for Clwyd South, including the increased ability to tackle antisocial behaviour in the area. Rt Hon Chris Philp MP, Minister for Policing, agreed that the recruitment is vital in combating this and other crimes.
Through the Police Uplift Programme, the UK Government has achieved its 2019 manifesto commitment to increase police numbers across the United Kingdom by 20,000, to provide support in tackling crime at a local level, and as part of its efforts to increase public safety and reduce crime rates. The additional officers are expected to support a wide range of policing activities, including community policing, crime prevention, and counter-terrorism efforts.
The Minister for Policing also agreed with Simon Baynes MP that there is a need to reduce the police's bureaucratic burdens, and Mr Baynes was pleased to hear that Home Office accounting laws have recently been changed to reduce some of these burdens, freeing up valuable time for police officers.
Commenting on the success of the Police Uplift Programme, Simon Baynes MP said:
“I am very pleased to hear of the recruitment of 207 additional police officers in North Wales. This recruitment is a significant step forward in ensuring that communities in Clwyd South and across the UK are protected from crime.
“I am confident that these officers will make a meaningful difference in combatting antisocial behaviour and keeping our communities safe, and I commend the hard work of law enforcement officials who continue to serve and protect their communities.”
