Simon Baynes, the Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, visited OR3D in Chirk on Friday 27th October to learn about their innovative work in Robotics, 3D laser-scanning, CT-scanning, and geospatial technology.
Based on the Brynkinalt Estate in Chirk, OR3D was established in 2011 by Managing Director James Earl and Operations Director Alexis Earl. It has since grown to employ 12 members of staff as well as a regular intake of York University students on work placements. OR3D has led on exciting work involving the use of drones and robots to carry out large infrastructure inspections in challenging environments such as bridges. Additionally, OR3D are partnered with numerous leading technology companies including the esteemed software company Oqton to whom OR3D are a recognised platinum partner; distributing their leading software for reverse engineering, medical and inspection work flows as well as offering training across the UK.
During his visit, Mr Baynes and Mr Earl discussed OR3D’s history and toured their offices, seeing the CT Centre, Research and Development, and their recently acquired third office for training as the UK’s only CT training provider for Volume Graphics. They also talked about OR3D’s current projects, including their use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and specialist work in reverse engineering software. In addition to this, Mr Baynes and Mr Earl also discussed OR3D’s plan to utilise Artificial Intelligence in their projects.
