I was very pleased to ask a question to the Minister for Immigration, Robert Jenrick MP, in the Illegal Migration Update on Wednesday 29th March in the House of Commons. The Minister said that accommodation for migrants should meet their essential living needs and nothing more, because we cannot risk becoming a magnet for the millions of people who are displaced and seeking better economic prospects.
I asked him to comment on the similar approach being taken by our neighbours in northern Europe such as Belgium, Ireland, France and Germany. It was encouraging to hear from the Minister that our neighbours are looking to take similarly strong action, and that we are working together and taking robust decisions to tackle the European migration crisis.
