On Friday 19th May, Simon Baynes, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, visited the Stiwt Theatre in Rhosllanerchrugog to see its newly refurbished auditorium ahead of hosting an MP Surgery at the theatre later that afternoon. Simon met with the Chair of the Stiwt, Brian Jones, and the General Manager, Rhys Davies, to discuss the recent refurbishment of the Stiwt, its efforts to become more carbon neutral, and the numerous events taking place there this year.
Now in its 97th year, the Stiwt’s recent auditorium renovation was partly funded by a grant from CADW with the remainder of the cost raised by the Rhos community and the Friends of the Stiwt, which now has over 100 members. The Stiwt’s 450-seat proscenium arch theatre provides a grand and flexible event-space.
As well as renovating the auditorium, the Stiwt’s trustees are working towards making the theatre more carbon neutral through insulation, solar panels, and new windows, making it more environmentally friendly as well as cost efficient.
