Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, visited Knolton Farmhouse Cheese near Overton on Wednesday 12th April to learn how this third-generation, family-run business continues to operate so successfully in the dairy industry.
Knolton Farmhouse Cheese has been owned and operated by the Latham family since the 1950s. Now directed by Jonathan Latham who works alongside his sons Scott and Stuart, Knolton Farmhouse Cheese has expanded away from supplying supermarkets to providing bulk dairy ingredients for other food producers. They produce cheese, butter, cream, dairy concentrates and powders, which are exported around the world from their doorstep in Overton.
During his visit, Simon Baynes MP met Jonathan and Scott Latham, and other staff who delivered an insightful presentation on Knolton Farmhouse Cheese’s products and operations. Mr Baynes also toured the site, visiting the Butter Plant followed by the Evaporation and Powder Plant. Their largescale machinery is used to produce large quantities of high-quality dairy produce for global export.
Scott Latham from Knolton Farmhouse Cheese said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Simon to our site and demonstrate our production and mission to become more sustainable - through projects such as our on-site solar farm. At Knolton Farmhouse Cheese, we produce dairy ingredients in bulk which are exported across the UK and globally from here in Overton.”
Speaking about his visit, Simon Baynes MP said:
“It was great to visit Knolton Farmhouse Cheese to learn about how this incredibly successful family-run business operates and their plans for the future.
I am very impressed that from their doorstep in Overton, they export their high-quality Welsh produce at a global scale whilst remaining a local, family-owned business. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the factory site and learning about their environmentally sustainable policies. I wish them every continued success in the future.”
