On Friday 7th October 2022, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, visited Madras VA Primary School in Penley where he met with both staff and pupils as the school re-launched the School Council for 2022.
Mr Baynes met with school pupils along with Headteacher, Katie Macey and Amanda Kempster who runs the School Council. During his visit, Mr Baynes announced the names of the pupils who had been elected to the School Council for the year and said he was ‘honoured’ to do so.
Mr Baynes praised the staff and pupils for such a fantastic visit and the school’s positive and uplifting environment as he saw from the tour of the school he was given by Mrs Macey. He also commended the way in which pupils had engaged with the election process and wished the pupils, staff and School Council members the very best for the academic year.
Headteacher, Mrs Katie Macey said:
“It was lovely for the pupils to have Mr Baynes come into school and act as our returning officer, announcing the results. This is our first year since COVID of having a school council and we wanted to re-launch it in a way the pupils would remember.”
Simon Baynes MP said:
“My visit to Madras VA Primary School in Penley was fantastic and I would like to thank Mrs Macey for the invite to help re-launch the School Council – it was really positive to see the happy and uplifting environment. It was wonderful to see the pupils engaged with the process of electing members to the Council and I was honoured to be asked to read out the results.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone at Madras Primary the very best for the future and also wish the School Council of 2022 a very successful year”.
