It was a great pleasure recently to welcome Lord Newborough, owner of the fantastic Rhug Estate near Corwen in Clwyd South, to a Reception at No. 10 Downing Street. The reception was to celebrate the work of Local Community Food and Farming Champions like Lord Newborough and was hosted by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, and Minister for Food, Farming and Fisheries, Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP.
The Rhug Estate covers 12,5000 acres in North Wales of which the 6,700 acre Rhug Estate Organic Farm is in Clwyd South in Denbighshire. Lord Newborough has transformed the Estate into an award-winning diverse business which is recognised for embracing sustainable organic farming, green energy, retail, wholesale and most recently, skincare. The approach has seen both the Estate and Lord Newborough recognised for their work, including through numerous Great Taste Awards and a Footprint Award, acknowledging their work to produce renewable energy onsite. In 2018, the Rhug Estate Organic Farm was granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to supply organic meat.
Lord Newborough is a wonderful advocate for the benefits of sustainably sourced and locally produced food, factors that are essential as we continue to boost food security in the UK.
