On Monday 12th September 2022, it was a great honour to attend the Presentation of Addresses by both Houses of Parliament to His Majesty King Charles III in Westminster Hall. The ceremony is part of a long and established tradition of communication between the Sovereign and Parliament.
The Lord Speaker and the Speaker of the House of Commons read Addresses to His Majesty which praised the magnificent reign of Queen Elizabeth II and also made particular reference to how Westminster Hall, which dates back 900 years, is a physical manifestation of the ancient traditions which bind together the monarchy and Parliament.
King Charles gave an impressive reply to the Addresses, echoing his very emotionally charged Address to the Nation on Friday in which he paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother, and he was clearly moved when we all stood to sing God Save the King.
The sense of history that accompanies our activities in Parliament at the moment is overwhelming and I feel very strongly that I am experiencing this not only personally but also for and on behalf of everyone in Clwyd South whom I have the honour of representing as their Member of Parliament.
