Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, joined local residents in Penley, Chirk, Iscoyd, Bronington and Bettisfield for a day of celebrations marking the Coronation of Their Majesties The King and Queen Consort on Sunday 7th May.
Simon Baynes MP attended a service of Holy Eucharist at St Mary Magdalene Church in Penley, where pupils from Penley’s Madras VA Primary School had decorated the church to mark the Coronation. The service was conducted by Rev Jeremy Dussek who made attendees feel very welcome.
There was also a Coronation Celebration service at St Mary's Church in Chirk, conducted by Rev Matt Wilkinson. Mr Baynes joined the interactive service which included making a special paper chain signifying the Coronation and the many links that bind the community. After the service, the congregation enjoyed refreshments in the vestry and Mr Baynes gave a short speech about his experience of attending the Coronation in Westminster Abbey the previous day, and toasted The King and Queen.
Simon Baynes MP also visited Iscoyd Park, the beautiful wedding and events venue, which hosted a special afternoon tea to celebrate the Coronation. The event was well-attended and highlighted the asset that Iscoyd Park is to the local community, as it attracts visitors and provides many jobs for people locally.
Residents in Bronington attended the Coronation Picnic in the Park on the Barry Barlow Play Area, where Mr Baynes enjoyed the various stalls and activities organised by local organisations including the Bronington Community Council, the 1st Bronington Rainbows, Brownies & East Flintshire Girlguides, Friends of Bronington School. Activities included flower arranging, a real-live children’s fruit machine, the Holy Trinity Church Bronington refreshments stall and the Popcorn Marathon. Children were able to colour in a large mural of the Coronation procession, and it was a very enjoyable day for everyone who attended.
The day of celebrations concluded with the Bettisfield Village Fete, organised by Bettisfield Village Hall, which featured various activities including a tug of war, a coconut shy, a dog show, a duck race and a fancy dress competition. Combined with the brilliant weather, it was a great way to celebrate the Coronation and the thriving Bettisfield community.
Speaking about his day of local Coronation celebrations, Simon Baynes MP said:
“It was an honour to join residents from different parts of Clwyd South in celebrating the Coronation. I was very pleased to see so many people from the community come together to mark this historic occasion.
"I am grateful to everyone who made this day a success and I enjoyed the opportunity to meet many different community groups and local organisations who dedicate so much time to bettering our local area.”
