It was a great pleasure recently to attend the AGM of the Friends of St Myllins Church in Llanfyllin on Saturday 16th March. The Rev Hermione Morris signed the £52,000 contract with Grosvenor Construction to begin work on building new steps in front of the Church, including ramp access and to make internal alternations to accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs. It was also very good to see Cllr Peter Lewis, the indefatigable Mayor of Llanfyllin.
Many congratulations to the Friends organisation, chaired by Keith Blacker, for raising the money to pay for these vital improvements, including just recently a grant of £25,000 through from the Welsh government’s Community Facilities Programme and a very welcome donation of £2,000 by Christopher Acton and his family at Bodfach.
I am proud to be the Patron of the Friends of St Myllin’s and to have been a founding Trustee in 2018 when we launched the Friends organisation until I stepped down in 2020 when I was elected as the MP for Clwyd South. St Myllin’s is a beautiful early 18th century church which is at the centre of the Llanfyllin community and we are all committed to ensuring its long-term health so it can continue to minister to the town and surrounding area.
