Simon Baynes, Welsh Conservative Assembly Candidate for Clwyd South, recently visited St Chad’s Church, Hanmer in order to learn more about the roof restoration appeal. He was shown round the beautiful church by Stuart Tole, funding organiser for the appeal and former Church Warden. The two side aisle roofs of the church are in urgent need of restoration as the 1892 lead cladding has cracked and now rain water seeps through, causing damage to the oak panels of the ceiling.
Simon Baynes said:
“The church is not only very beautiful but also a thriving place of community worship and activity. Stuart Tole explained how you can sponsor a panel of the ceiling for £25 or more so that damage to it may be corrected and new protection provided above it.
The sponsorship may be in memory of someone or a straightforward gift and it can be recorded in a record book. They have a roof plan into which your name, or that of the person you wish to commemorate, can be printed so that you can choose and later identify the panel you have sponsored.
I was very pleased to sponsor a panel on my visit and I hope many others will do so as well so the church can reach its fundraising target quickly and restore the roof of this beautiful and very special church.”
